Food Chart - what is safe, healthy, and wonderful for YOU

I just wanted to pass this on to my readers.  It's just another source of information so you can make informed decisions about what to eat!  The chart is a free downloadable pdf.

Alternative Therapy- worth consideration

I get lots of questions from people and family members about why I have chosen to combine alternative medicine with western medicine.  For me, it is a personal choice and again, I am NOT a doctor, but I think that we all need to become more familiar with our bodies and read the vast amount of information out there about the care and feeding of our own selves.  We typically take better care of our pets and our lawns than we do our own bodies.  A wonderful site for lots of information about naturopathic medicine and what they cn and cannot do in the US, please visit: Three Rivers: the healthy place
                          *******************************************************
Other countries are much farther ahead than we are on healing.  Our bodies are designed to heal themselves.  When our bodies are given optimum nutrition and care, we can heal just about everything.  Recently, Drew Carey stated publicly that he healed his own type-2 diabetes with diet and exercise.  It's true; we CAN do this!

There are many reasons to see a western medicine physician, from broken bones to infections which can't be healed without medications, but sometimes, the medicines themselves cause more harm than good.  Just listen to the commercials about various prescription medications and all of the possible side effects; they range from everything from nausea to death.  Really?  Isn't there another way?
In British Columbia, there is a Naturopath ruling  .  They have decided that their work is goodness and that they SHOULD be allowed to prescribe treatments for individuals they see in their practice. In the past, a person would have to pay for both a naturopath and a western medicine physician in order to receive whole medicine treatment.  I am NOT saying that I am against western medicine in any way.  I believe in a combination of both, but I am suggesting to my readers that THEY take more control of their health by learning all they can about what is being done to them in the healthcare realm.

So, here's my TOP 5 list of things I DO to be the healthiest I can be:
These are the very simplest things- I do a lot more...but we'll talk about those more in detail later!
1.  Eat to Live....don't live to eat   Sure, I treat myself now and then, but it's NOW AND THEN
2.  Skin Brushing and detoxing your colon: skin brushing should be daily- and detoxing can be as simple as eating foods that stimulate your digestive system, from fruits and vegetables to lots of water.  I'll talk more about skin brushing in another entry and possibly do a video on it
3.  Be grateful: find at least 1 thing every single day to be grateful for
4.  Be a lifelong learner: use your mind! think, learn, grow...find new interests, stay engaged
5.  Love - love your spouse, significant other, family, friends; what goes around, comes around

and, if interested, this is a GREAT READ...

How to make a SUPER HEALTHY detoxing smoothie

** First, I want to emphasize that all of your fruits and vegetables need to be organic, fresh, and thoroughly washed. Yes, even wash organic fruits and vegetables. They've been handled, rained on, and transported and they need a good cleansing. I use warm water--no store bought products to 'clean' my fruit!
** Secondly, FRESH is my preference, but to save money, buy fruits on sale when you can and freeze small bags to store away--that's the next best thing to fresh and they still taste incredible.
** Next, to have the MOST nutrition for the least amount of fat and/or calories, use organic non-fat PLAIN yogurt. It will taste awesome in your smoothie, even if you don't like to eat it plain.
** The food additive that I put in my smoothie, YOGA DETOX, is NOT a requirement. You can buy protein/whey/nutritional substitutes in Whole Foods, Vitamin Cottage, or your favorite nutritional store, but read the ingredients carefully. You do not want to be adding any soy. We eat far too much soy in our diets already, so don't be adding any here first thing in the morning.

So, let's begin. First thing in the morning, you'll want to pour yourself a tall glass of clean fresh water...this can be from your tap if it's purified, OR buy distilled water. Add about 1/2 the juice from 1/2 of a fresh lemon and sip on this while you make your smoothie. The lemon in the water will cleanse your bowels and the lemon will help to take the acidic nature out of your system and make your system more neutral. I know it sounds counter-intuitive that an acid will make that happen, but it's true.

Lemon juice is also a major player in the 'master cleanse' diet that Demi Moore and her husband just did--it works, I promise. Buy some test strips at your local health store and check your pH w/ your saliva and urine BEFORE and AFTER doing this cleanse for a week. You'll see!!

I use a blender, but a food processor will work, too:

1. Spinach- fresh, organic, firm, dark green...throw a handful in after you've washed it.
2.  Add a whole banana--now here's a place where you can use up a banana that maybe is past its freshest life cycle--in fact, the older ones are sweeter and will enhance the flavor of your smoothie--you can also freeze a 'getting old' banana and they will work just fine--your smoothie will just be COLDER!

3.  Add some blueberries.  Again, the amount depends on whether this is just for you, you and your friend/partner/spouse/kids OR you want to make some for later!  2 handfuls is good for me!

4.  Add the yogurt:  I use TWO HEAPING tablespoons of non-fat plain organic yogurt--the brand is not as important in a smoothie.  I definitely have some favorites to eat plain.
There are Many Varieties: choose your favorite!
      5.  2 T. YOGA DETOX or supplement of your choice that does not include SOY as an ingredient.

I get this from my naturopath, but it can be ordered online--if you need assistance, just ask me and I'm happy to answer your questions.

6.  Add 1/2 cup of orange juice or other juice that you like- apple, cranberry, mango.....be creative!

7.  Add 1 packet of Emergen-C- added boost, extra vitamin C...and is Chock Full of Goodness!

Any flavor will work! I just love the ORANGE

8.  Blend on medium speed for about an minute....pour and drink immediately.  If you want, this mixture can be frozen into 'pops' for an afternoon pick me up on a hot afternoon....GREAT FOR KIDS---they won't even KNOW they are eating all that spinach!!

9.  ENJOY---if you have any questions, please email me!  I'd love to hear from you!!

I can hardly wait!!

Oh so yummy!!
