Brackett's Farm, Maine and the trip to Jackson, New Hampshire

On Columbus Day, I had an appointment with a local dentist in Maine- I'm not going to name her, but THANK YOU!!  She took x-rays and gave me a prescription for penicillin and pain meds- oh my---I've never had a toothache like that and I knew it wasn't going to be pretty when I got home, but for now, I needed something to feel better so we could enjoy this long anticipated vacation!!

After the appointment, we made our way from Kennebunk, Maine to Jackson, New Hampshire....along the way, there were gorgeous vistas, farmstands, white homes and churches, and apples, pumpkins, and cider stands.  Finally, we couldn't stand it anymore and stopped....we bought a bag of apples, had some wonderful conversation with the gal at the stand, and got out to stretch and enjoy the sunshine.....

A highlight was a stop at Brackett's Farm.  It has been in operation since 1780.  See their website for events, history, and details, but it is a MUST STOP---so yummy good!!
APPLES!

the barn across the street from the farmstand

I've never seen horse apples advertised/sold before- I know they love 'em!

I didn't know Maine was known for its potatoes!

They had a pick-your-own orchard, too

cider, syrup, pumpkins.....anything you could think of

so many varieties

Honeycrisp apples at HALF the cost of Whole Foods back home

inside the barn farmstand- love the signs!

a stately purple martin house posed in the rafters of the barn

apples, apples, apples

TONS of blue hubbard squash- can I fit one in your suitcase sweetheart?

The farm's black lab sat patiently waiting for a treat

Oh how I'd love to take a bundle of this home with me!

the rolling hills....and our pride showing!

I call this 'a pop of color'

At times, we felt like the only ones on the road

spectacular New England color

a gorgeous river on this beautiful day

giving you a sense of where we were

so what's up around the corner?

another darling little church in New England

blue skies and water....and color all around

I had my eyes open for moose in these wet areas

bursts of color and mountains up ahead!

LOVED this sign---

the road ahead

Bright red, orange, yellow and MOOSE CROSSING signs!

I couldn't even capture all the color in New Hampshire

gorgeous color along our route

the churches in New England are like none other

Love the light and shade....colors and green

LOTS of leaves down in this neck of the woods

We made it!! Jackson, NH- we're here!!
Oh how I love the covered bridges!!
The next blog entry will highlight the lovely inn where we stayed for two nights in Jackson, what we did while we were there, and the delicious dinners that we still talk about!  See you then!!
